Harambee Stars newbie Tobias Knost has expressed his excitement and determination to contribute to the national team’s World Cup qualification campaign. The German-born defender, who previously represented Germany at the U-18 level, spoke to the media for the first time since receiving his Kenyan call-up.
Knost, one of four new faces brought in by coach Engin Firat to address injury concerns in the squad, admitted to initial challenges adjusting to the Kenyan climate. “The first day was tough,” he said, citing the heat and altitude. “But I’ve adapted well in the last few days and feel much better.”
Playing for Kenya holds a special significance for Knost. “It’s a huge honor and a dream come true for any player,” he declared. “It’s also a chance to represent my motherland. I’m really happy to be here.”
The warm hospitality he’s encountered in Kenya hasn’t gone unnoticed. “The people are very welcoming,” Knost said. “Though I don’t speak Swahili yet, I’m trying to learn a few words. Thankfully, everyone speaks English, so communication isn’t an issue.”
Knost’s immediate goals are focused on making a positive impact. “This is my first time here, and I want to impress the team and the coaches,” he explained. “Getting playing time would be a huge honor, but for now, I just want to give my all in every training session and see where that takes me.”
Knost’s inclusion is expected to bolster the Harambee Stars’ defensive depth. His experience playing for Germany’s U-18 team could prove valuable as Kenya navigates their crucial World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast.
