His story isn’t just about breaking records; it’s about redefining what success looks like in Kenyan football and proving that with passion and perseverance the impossible is possible.

Onyango’s footballing odyssey began in the vibrant community of Ngong where he was introduced to the sport through the Young Talent Soccer Academy. Under the mentorship of Coach Hamisi Mohammed AKA Coach Kaka, Onyango’s potential was nurtured from a young age. “Coach Kaka spotted me when I was still very young and nurtured my skills from the U11 level all the way through,” Onyango recalls with gratitude. This early guidance is what laid a solid foundation for his professional career.

The pivotal moment in Onyango’s career came in 2019 when he joined Kariobangi Sharks Youth. His transition later on from the youth to the senior squad was marked by impressive performances, culminating in 105 league appearances. “Joining Sharks was a huge milestone for me,” he says. “It was a place where I could truly develop and showcase my skills on a larger platform.” His growth and consistency on the field have been nothing short of remarkable, reflecting his dedication and hard work.

When asked to describe an ideal type of player, Onyango humorously cites his current teammates Aboud Omar for his defensive prowess and winger Alvin Mang’eni for his attacking speed, while adding his unique flair to the mix. “Combining these qualities with my own skills is what I aim for because that will be a complete kind of player that is unstoppable,” he says while laughing.

Onyango who finished last season with five goals and ten assists for Sharks finishes the interview with a simple yet profound advice to all young aspiring footballers in the country: “Always believe in your dream. It might be a tough journey but if you keep working hard, stay disciplined and never give up, you’ll eventually make it to the top when the time is right as set by God.”
