Defending CAF Champions League champions Al Ahly will kick off their title defense against Kenyan giants Gor Mahia this Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium. The match, scheduled for 3 PM local time, marks the first leg of the preliminary round.

Gor Mahia, who advanced to this stage after a thrilling 5-2 aggregate victory over South Sudan’s Al Mereikh Bentiu, will face a formidable opponent in Al Ahly. The Egyptian giants, boasting a rich history of continental success, are expected to be strong favorites.

However, Gor Mahia will be eager to defy expectations and cause an upset. The Kenyan club’s recent form and the unpredictable nature of continental football provide a glimmer of hope.

Coach Leonardo Neiva will be tasked with devising a strategy to neutralize Al Ahly’s formidable attack, led by the likes of Mohamed Sherif and Percy Tau. The absence of first-choice goalkeeper Kevin Omondi due to injury could also challenge the Kenyan side.

On the other hand, Al Ahly have bolstered their squad with several new signings, including defender Youssef Ayman, midfielder Omar El-Saaiy, Moroccan left-back Yahia Attiyat Allah, and defender Achraf Dari. These additions will further strengthen their already formidable lineup.

Despite the odds being stacked against them, Gor Mahia are determined to make a statement and give their fans something to cheer about. A positive result in the first leg could set them up for a thrilling return fixture in Egypt.
