The upcoming Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal on Sunday, dubbed “Super Sunday” due to its significance in the title race, is shrouded in uncertainty as key players from both teams battle to recover from injuries.

Manchester City will be sweating over the fitness of their defensive duo, John Stones and Kyle Walker. Both players limped off during their international duties with England. Stones suffered a muscle issue in the match against Belgium after just 10 minutes, while Walker was forced off earlier in the week against Brazil. While Walker rejoined the City squad before the second friendly, Stones’ status remains doubtful. Their absence would be a major blow to City’s backline, especially considering they were both instrumental in the recent 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

Arsenal also faces a nervous wait on the fitness of some of their attacking stars. Bukayo Saka, a vital cog in Arsenal’s impressive run, withdrew from the England squad late last week with a minor hamstring problem. While described as a precaution, his availability for the crucial clash against City remains unclear. Adding to their woes, Gabriel Martinelli missed out on selection for Brazil due to a knock.

The Gunners might also have concerns over Gabriel Magalhães, who pulled out of the Brazil squad early. Manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping all three players recover in time for the weekend.

This match is massive for both teams’ title aspirations. Arsenal currently sit atop the Premier League table, just one point ahead of Manchester City. A win for the Gunners would solidify their lead and send a strong message to their title rivals. For City, a win is essential to reclaim top spot and keep the pressure on Arsenal.

The absence of any of these players would significantly impact the match’s dynamics. Stones and Walker are crucial to City’s defensive stability, while Saka and Martinelli provide a potent attacking threat for Arsenal. Their presence, or lack thereof, could significantly influence the outcome of this high-stakes encounter.
